The future of urban waste management
Each household now needs multiple bins in order to segregate waste for collection. These not only take up considerable kerbside and garden space but also are a very visible presence.
With more household bins to empty, collection rounds are taking longer, requiring a bigger fleet, more staff and continual bin maintenance.
Surface bins, if overloaded, or not used properly, can attract unwanted pests and cause unpleasant odours.
Not every household can accommodate additional bins for recycling, meaning that valuable resources are lost to residual waste collection.
Local authorities spend a great deal of time in resolving issues when one resident’s bin has been wrongly filled by another household.
Local authorities have an important role in delivering carbon emission reductions, particularly in the area of transport. Increasing recycling rates is also a priority as well as reducing contamination of valuable recyclates.

The wireless FLS-2 fill level sensor is a key component of a URS system as it records and monitors the contents of waste containers. This means that these containers are only emptied when they need to be, saving time and money as well as reducing vehicle movements and harmful emissions. The sensor is easily installed into the lid of a container and is maintenance-free. It transmits real-time data to the back-office so that collections can be organised more efficiently.
When fitted with our Filling Level Sensors, containers are only emptied when they are close to full. This allows Local Authorities to operate more efficiently by saving manpower, fuel and CO2. With MAWIS Pocket, in combination with our powerful C6K handheld computer, operatives can receive service updates on each container in order to manage cleaning, servicing or repairs.
Locate and manage every bin, container and asset with our high-performance RFID identification and system. Our on-board Mobile Weighing & RFID systems then accurately identify and weigh each container, with realtime data sent to the back office.
MOBA’s powerful MAWIS software is the complete waste management solution for every aspect of URS operation and maintenance. It optimises collection route planning and allows collection operatives to both receive and report back operational issues, from which detailed reports can be generated. In doing so, it maximizes collection profits, identifies maintenance issues, provides proof of service and manages citizens access to bins, including that for nonpaying customers. By closely monitoring the volume of recyclates, Local Authorities can provide more focused recycling tips through the Citizen APP.
The allows users, including citizens and businesses, to communicate directly with those responsible for the URS collection and cleaning. It can be configured to the needs, types of service and requirements of each local authority. In addition to this, the APP allows the Local Authority to inform citizens about collection dates, recycling tips and the nearest containers to them via a map. The APP allows users to include photos to inform the Local Authority of incidents or damage, so that swift action can be taken. Furthermore, the APP also encourages participation in recycling programs. It can also allow for a pay per use systems to be implemented.
Our Keymaster waste lock unit means that only citizens with the correct user identification can access the waste unit. This is done through RFID technology using either our SmartTag or Smartcard devices. Keymaster is robust and lightweight and features ultra-low battery consumption.
